2010 BARREL FUTURITY & DERBY RULES

Rules of Entry
- The
Northern Lights Barrel Futurity is open
to horses born 2005 or later (5 year old & under). The Derby is open to horses born
2003 or later (7 year old & under). Include a copy of Registration Papers or Venterinarian's
affidavit of year of birth and complete description of unregistered
horses with your first payment.
- Futurity horses must
never have entered a barrel race event (ie. registered shows,
open shows, rodeos, jackpots, futurities, etc.) prior to December 1,
2009. Exhibition or "time only" runs prior to December
1 are allowed. Derby horses are exempt from this rule.
- Late Fees are $50 per late entry*. Entries considered late when postmarked after due date.
Entries Close: August 27 to be accepted.
*Entries received AFTER August 15 will be placed at the end of the draw.
- Owner may enter more than one horse.
Owner does not have to ride. Male or female riders
allowed.
- Horses must have ORIGINAL REGISTRATION
PAPERS (OR VETERINARY AFFIDAVIT) IN CURRENT OWNERS
NAME AT CHECK-IN TIME. Papers will be checked by an
official. If a discrepancy exists, horse will be disqualified
and all monies forfeited.
- SUBSTITUTIONS will be accepted if
death, illness or unsoundness befalls the original
nominated horse. A vet release must accompany horse
substitution. The substitute horse must meet all requirements.
Horse and rider substitutions must be made in the show
office at least 2 hours prior to competition.
- Dropped horses will not be reinstated.
- Twenty percent (20%) is deducted
for advertising, promotion and administration of this
event.
- Any questions or disputes which arise
during the course of the event which are not covered
by the above rules will be decided and settled by the
committee whose decision is final.
- NO REFUNDS, NO EXCEPTIONS
Each entrant will be required
to sign and agree to the following waiver agreement.
RELEASE OF LIABILITY WAIVER
(We)
hereby make application to enter the named horse(s) in the
Northern Lights Barrel Futurity and/or Derby, subject to the rules
of the event. Rules, of which I (we) have read, and agree to the
provisions contained therein as a part of this contract, I (we)
agree to indemnify and hold the Northern Lights Barrel Futurity & Derby
Committee, the Keystone Centre, and the City of Brandon, from any claims
rising out of participation in this event. It is understood and
agreed that particiapnts will be soley responsible for any consequential
or other loss, injury, or damage incurred while participating in
this event.
Barrel Racing Ground Rules
-
A maximum of three gate calls
will be given, after which the horse and rider
combination will be disqualified for that go-round.

If a contestant competes out of turn, he/she will be fined
$50.00.

An electric timer will be used for all rides.

Should the
timer not function, a rerun will be granted.

There will be no reruns if a horse falls.

45 gallon metal barrels, containing both ends, will be
used.

No signs, banners or posters shall be displayed without
prior approval of the show promoter.

A horse/rider combination cannot change draw position under
any circumstance, nor can the horse and rider combo change after the first run.

Any questions or disputes that may arise during the show,
not covered by the rules set out here, will be settled by the show
committee, whose decision will be final.
